There are many different types of poisons used to kill fleas and ticks. These poisons are also delivered in different manors such as spot ons, bombs, sprays, powders and oral medications. Some common poisons used on dogs or cats are moxidectin, imidacloprid and pyrethrin. Flea and tick poisons can have various levels of toxicity from mild to severe and life threatening. I’ve listed some of the possible signs of insecticide poisoning below.
Some Signs of Toxicity
- Shaking and tremors
- Unusually excitable
- Trouble breathing
If your dog is experiencing any of these symptoms you may want to bath your pet with a gentle shampoo to wash off any remaining poison and then contact your veterinarian for further instructions.
