How do ticks bite?
Ticks attach themselves very securely to the host by secreting a small amount of anesthetic in their saliva during the process. This anesthetic makes the biting process painless and easy to go unnoticed. So, ticks get a very strong grip on the host and don’t get brushed off easily.
How do you remove ticks?
Some ticks can be removed with your fingers but others are more difficult and require different means. I personally like to use hemostats but tweezers and other tick removing tools will also work. Basically, you want to grab ahold of the tick close to where it is attached to the skin and twist and pull. With a tool they come off with ease. It is important to kill them or flush them down the toilet after removed. If not the females will wonder off and lay their eggs. This is not good.
Look for ticks where?
Ticks can be found anywhere on your pet but they do have a preferred area to feed. Ticks love to hide out in your pet’s ears and sometimes deep inside the ear canal. I have found hemostats very effective for removing these ticks. They also hide out in fold of skin and around the shoulder area. Some ticks also hide between the toes.
